Hailing from Northern New Jersey, Mourning was formed in early 2004 by music mastermind Bill Pope, former bassist of the black metal band Bloodthrone. Within the first year, Mourning was signed to Ossuary Industries, a new indie label based out of Houston, TX.
With the release of their debut album Blinded by Hate (2005) and their follow-up Mourning the New Dawn (2011), both albums received great reviews from Pit Magazine, Volcano Magazine (China), and Head Thrasher Zine (Peru). During this time, their fan base grew worldwide, giving them the opportunity to share the stage with national acts such as Suffocation, Atheist, Soreption, Venom Inc., Internal Bleeding, Black Anvil, and Grave.
Mourning consists of Bill Pope on guitar—a master at turning a tornado of notes into a killer riff. Josh Hammond on lead guitar and vocals, a master of knowing how to make music brutal, but have melody which goes hand-in-hand with his guttural vocal approach.. Scott Gundlach on bass, not only filling in the low-end gaps but doing so in a way that most traditional metal bass players would not.
